Why Life Burns Your Bridges When You’re Ready for Chapter Two

Trusting the leap when the simulation moves you forward

Hey friend,

It’s been a minute since I dropped a new video, and there’s a concept that’s been on my mind that I’ve been wanting to share with you.

It’s called the Chapter One vs. Chapter Two transition.

You know how in Harry Potter, Harry is living with the Dursleys in that tiny cupboard under the stairs—that’s Chapter One. Everything he knows, everything familiar, even the stuff that kinda sucks. Then Hagrid shows up and basically says, “You’re a wizard, Harry. Come with me to Hogwarts.” That’s the invitation into Chapter Two. The story literally cannot continue unless Harry leaves the old world behind.

Life does the exact same thing.

When you’re stepping into a brand-new chapter—new country, new business, new identity, new way of being—Chapter One starts throwing little (and sometimes big) tantrums. Old jobs get messy. Relationships get dramatic. Random drama pops up that feels like it’s trying to pull you back. You might even catch yourself thinking, “If I could just tidy this one last thing up perfectly, then I’ll go…”

That right there? That’s the test.

The universe isn’t punishing you. It’s actually doing you the biggest favor: it’s burning the bridges so you can’t sneak back. It’s removing the safety net because the only way forward is forward. And yeah, it can feel uncomfortable. There’s grief. There’s the urge to delay, to fix, to leave on “good terms.” But sometimes the kindest thing life can do is hand you an “evil exit” (as Steve Pavlina calls it) and say, “Trust me. Leap.”

I just recorded a short video where I walk through this whole idea and tell the story of a client who is living this exact moment right now—he’s literally about to fly to Bali and start a whole new life, and Chapter One decided to throw one last curveball at him. Watching how he’s navigating it honestly gave me chills.

If you’re in any kind of transition right now (and let’s be real, most of us are), I think this one will resonate with you.

I’d love to hear what lands for you after you watch—reply and let me know which part felt like it was meant for you to hear.

Big hug,
James

P.S. This July 1st to 5th, I’m hosting my next God Mode Retreat. This is the one and only retreat I have planned for the rest of 2026, and there are only 10 spots total—a few have already been claimed.

It’s specifically designed for the kind of person who is going through a major life transition or stepping into a powerful new chapter—exactly what we talked about in the video today.

If you feel called to join me for what I know will be a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience, click here to learn more and secure your spot.
